Peachburg Pecans are grown in Bullock County, Alabama, on family land with a long and varied history of agricultural use. Beginning with an initial land grant in 1851, the land has changed hands several times and has now been in our family’s care since 1980.
The Turnipseed family purchased the land in the 1880s to establish a peach orchard and cannery “where the Central of Georgia Railroad intersected the old Montgomery to Columbus Road”. By early 1900, the land, in part, was converted into pecan orchards - some of which stand today.
The remaining trees from the old orchard, some over one hundred years old, have continued to produce nuts which have been gathered, enjoyed and given as Christmas gifts for 40 years. These pecans were smaller than store-bought but the taste was superior. We learned that these “native” pecans had their own subtle characteristics in taste and texture compared to store-brought. And this is where our story begins.
In 2013, we converted some of the old agriculture fields, timberland and hayfields into commercial pecan orchards. The first orchard was established in 2014, the second in 2017 and the third orchard was planted in January, 2019. Our first harvest was gathered in November of 2019 from the first orchard planted in January, 2014.
During the harvest it became clear that these nuts have an extraordinary flavor - superior to anything we had ever tasted.
Therefore, it is our intention to produce for you a pecan second to none: a nut that tastes like it was harvested and shelled the week before – no matter the season.
